SAP'Arts UG

SAP’Arts is a combination of the three artist names Scar (Benedicto Mugisa), Arteenyi (Julius Murungi) and Pato (Patrick Ruyonga). Based a bit outside of Fort Portal they have a small gallery, where they produce their art pieces. The material is just outside in their garden: Banana fibers.

Scar, born 1996, is the pioneer under the artists in the region (if not in Uganda or even further more) in this kind of art. Living in a developing country, where the unemployment rate is high, young people mostly hopeless, the chance to get a good living is low - to follow your passion and doing art, is a life changing decision. Especially as art is not known as a very life promising working field. But Scar believed in his talent and followed his passion. Later on he found a partner in his brother Arteenyi, born 1995, and taught him the art of banana fibers mosaic. With every piece made, the quality increased - nowadays to pieces like photographs.

The brothers don't want to keep their art for themselves. Therefore they got recently joined by their student Pato, who is doing this art since beginning of 2019. But also everyone who is interested can have an insight in the technique by joining the team in a workshop.

What makes the art of those three young artists so special is the material. Only out of banana fibers, they create pieces of animals like photographs. But in their portfolio you can also find abstracts and portraits. No added colors, only resources from the nature. SAP’Arts describes their art as banana fibers mosaic.
